I Hate Christmas returned to Netflix for a second season on December 7th, 2023, and while the title may suggest a Grinch-like aversion to the holiday season, the Italian romantic comedy is actually a heartwarming exploration of love, family, and finding your place in the world.

Pilar Fogliati reprises her role as Gianna, a fiery nurse who hates Christmas because of its forced merriment and pressure to conform. In season 1, Gianna embarked on a quest to find a boyfriend to bring to her family’s Christmas dinner, only to discover that true happiness comes from within.

Season 2 picks up a year later, with Gianna seemingly in a happy relationship with the charming and supportive Alessandro (Nicolas Maupas). However, their relationship is tested when Alessandro receives a job offer in London, forcing Gianna to confront her fear of commitment and decide what she truly wants in life.

Navigating the Ups and Downs of Love

The second season of I Hate Christmas is all about navigating the ups and downs of love. Gianna and Alessandro face challenges, both external and internal, as they try to figure out whether their relationship is strong enough to withstand long-distance and family pressures.

The series does an excellent job of portraying the complexities of love without resorting to cheesy clichés. The characters are well-developed and relatable, and the dialogue feels natural and authentic.

More Than Just a Christmas Show

While Christmas is undoubtedly a backdrop for the story, the series is about much more than the holiday season. It’s about finding your path in life, staying true to yourself, and learning to embrace the unexpected.

Gianna’s journey is one of self-discovery as she learns to let go of her past hurts and embrace the possibility of love and happiness. The series also tackles essential themes such as family relationships, societal expectations, and the pressure to conform.

Verdict: Stream It or Skip It?

If you’re looking for a heartwarming and relatable romantic comedy with a touch of Christmas cheer, then I Hate Christmas Season 2 is definitely worth a watch. The series is well-written, well-acted, and beautifully filmed. It will undoubtedly make you feel cozy on the inside.

Here are some additional reasons to watch:

Pilar Fogliati’s performance is outstanding. She brings Gianna to life with charm, wit, and vulnerability.

The supporting cast is equally vital. The series features a memorable ensemble of characters, each with their own story to tell.

The cinematography is beautiful. The series is filmed in stunning locations in Italy, which adds to the overall charm of the story.

The soundtrack is perfect. The music is catchy and festive, and it helps to set the mood for the series.

Overall, I wouldn’t say I like Christmas Season 2 is a delightful and heartwarming treat. It’s a perfect way to get into the holiday spirit, and it’s sure to leave you with a smile on your face.
